Good workout at Sincil Bank for Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday got their pre-season up and running in earnest on Friday evening when they faced Lincoln City at Sincil Bank.

The League Two side provided Wednesday with a good competitive test at this stage of their preparations and gave as good as they got in a first half which saw few good opportunities at either end.

Jos Luhukay fielded a mix of youth and experience in the first 45 minutes with the likes of Alex Hunt, Ash Baker and Jordan Thorniley given a run out alongside Keiren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson who both missed large chunks of last season through injury.

Half-time saw a raft of substitutions including the introduction of Pudil, Bannan, Nuhiu and Forestieri and as the visitors started to take more control of the game it was the latter who made the difference. Following good work from Fraser Preston and Palmer the enigmatic forward fired a strike from the edge of the area into the opposite corner of the goal to the delight of the Wednesday fans in the crowd.

Cameron Dawson made a smart save to deny Lincoln a later leveler in what proved to be a good workout for all involved. Next up for the Owls is a short trip to Mansfield on Tuesday 24th July.
