Owls boss hits out

The Owls boss usually blames the fans or injuries for woeful performances but after The Cherries came up north and brushed Wednesday aside, he lambasted his sorry players for their lack of passion.

Goals from Steve Fletcher and Carl Fletcher gave the south-coast outfit an unassailable 2-0 within 20 minutes, and Turner said he would like to fine the entire wall of players who let Carl’s free kick sneak through.

But it was the lack of spark and desire which worried Turner the most, he said: “I saw most of the players playing like it was a pre-season game and there is not a lot to play for. At the end of the day as a professional footballer you have to show that drive, enthusiasm and passion that you want to win.

“I felt we gave the game away in the first twenty minutes, we were better in the second half but not really good enough.”

After good wins against Barnsley and Bristol City, Turner expected a similar result against Bournemouth but it was not to be.

“Players who want to achieve something with their career and with the team they play for go and get it,” he added.

“The reason why this club is where it is at the moment is due to performances like that one over the years, we have to snap out of it. We took three steps forward against Barnsley and five back against Bournemouth,” he told Radio Sheffield.
