Owls coach extends contract

Sheffield Wednesday have today confirmed that head coach Carlos Carvalhal has signed an extension to his current deal to remain in charge of the Owls first team.

Specific details, including the length of the contract have not been disclosed but the news comes at a time when the Portuguese manager has been rumoured to be attracting interest from other clubs, including Premier League Swansea City. The backroom coaching staff under Carvalhal have also extended their contracts.

When new Chairman Dejphon Chansiri announced that Carvalhal was his choice as new head coach last summer the news was greeted with a fair amount of scepticism within sections of the owls support due to his lack of experience in the Championship or indeed in England and the fact that he had a propensity to change clubs quickly.

However, Chansiri set his new coach a brief of bringing an exciting, aggressive and attractive brand of football to Hillsborough with the aim of promotion to the Premier League within 2 years. To date after taking a short amount of time to adapt to English football, Carvalhal has delivered on the former objectives and looks capable of achieving the latter.
