New boys involved in victory

Sheffield Wednesday ended their pre-season warm up games for the 2021-22 campaign with a 2-1 win away to Port Vale on Tuesday evening.

The Owls fielded a starting 11 that included new signings Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Lewis wing after both put pen to paper on loan deals earlier in the day while Jack Hunt, who returned to the club last week, was also involved.

Wing’s Wednesday career started well as his corner was met by Iorfa to give the Owls the lead from close range on 25 minutes. The home side struck back within 5 minutes however, Conlon diverting Worral’s drive past Wednesday’s debutant keeper.

Darren Moore made 8 substitutions over the course of the second half and the game became increasingly scrappy but Wednesday were able to find a winning goal in what was a useful final work out when Dele-Bashiru showed his power to hold off a couple of challenges before finding the top corner with a fine strike from near the penalty spot with 10 minutes to go.

Wednesday’s season starts in earnest on Sunday when they face Huddersfield Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup at Hillsborough.
