Wednesday Vs Cardiff: Team news & preview

The Championship returns from an international break on Friday as Sheffield Wednesday take on Cardiff City in Wales.

The Owls will go top of the table if they can win by a two-goal margin ahead of the rest of the league fixtures this weekend.

Garry Monk has a strong squad to select from with no new injury worries. Fernando Forestieri is back in contention having served a 6-match suspension and Sam Hutchinson is in line to return having completed a 1-match ban. The game comes to early for Tom Lees who has been sidelined for over a month due to a hamstring injury, he is on course to be back in full training next week.

Cardiff could welcome back Joe Ralls who has recovered from a groin injury but Isaac Vassell is unlikely to feature until next month at the earliest. Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and winger Junior Hoilett will be assessed ahead of the game having only returned back from international duty on Thursday but both are expected to feature.

Neil Warnock's side have the 2nd best home record in the Championship so far this season and are unbeaten on their own patch having won 4 and drawn 1. Wednesday having won 3 and lost 3 from 6 away games to date.

The Owls have not managed a win so far in the Cardiff City Stadium having taken just 3 points from their previous 6 visits. Their recent record in Wales as a whole makes poor reading as they have not beaten any team in their last 11 matches in the country.

When the two teams last faced each other in the league in the 2017-18 season both matches ended in draws, 0-0 at Hillsborough and 1-1 in Cardiff.
