Owls held in Portugal

Sheffield Wednesday’s second match in Portugal ended in a draw on Thursday evening against lower league Portuguese side SC Farense.

Having played the previous evening Wednesday were much-changed for the=is fixture with youngsters Murphy, O’Grady and Thorniley all given a run out.

Abdi and Matias also got useful minutes under their belt as they look to put last season’s injury-hit campaigns behind them. In what turned out to be a rather subdued game with few chances the Owls looked to have won the match with a little over 10 minutes to go when Fletcher prodded home following good work from fellow 2nd half substitutes Bannan & Forestieri.

Farense still had time to bring Wednesday’s 100% pre-season record to an end though and they did so through Jorginho who scored direct from a free-kick.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side will bring their Portuguese trip to an end when they face top flight side Vitoria Setubal on Saturday evening.
