Owls in contention at halfway point

With 23 games gone in the 2015/16 Championship season Sheffield Wednesday are well positioned to mount a play-off challenge in the 2nd half of the season. With 36 Wednesday are currently 7th, 1 point behind 6th placed Ipswich Town.

When onwer Dejphon Chansiri took control of the club earlier this year he stated it was his aim to see the club back in the Premier League in 2017, in time for their 150th anniversary. Now the Owls are in contention to to mount a challenge to reach that aim a year early and what approach Chansiri takes in the January transfer window could be key.

The owner has already provided major backing in his short time at the club with improvements made off the field as well as to the playing staff and there is little doubt that Wednesday have their best squad of players since relegation from the top flight 15 years ago.

If the Owls are to maintain a promotion challenge into the 2nd half of the season they will need to look to replicate their home form on their travels. Wednesday have a fine record at Hillsborough this season. Only Middlesbrough have managed to come away from S6 with a win and Wednesday have already scored far more goals on home soil in this campaign than they managed in the whole of last season.

Away from Hillsborough it's a different story however as the Owls have won just 2 of their 11 away games to date, losing 4 times including defeats at struggling Charlton and MK Dons.

Carlos Carvalhal will be looking for his side to improve on this record as the 2nd half of the campaign kicks off with successive away matches at Middlesbrough and Fulham.
