Owls let striker stay out but keep him on call

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed to the request of Coventry City to allow Gary Madine's loan spell at the Ricoh Arena to be extended.

Madine joined the Sky Blues on an initial loan deal in October and has impressed enough in his short time there so far to merit a further deal. The striker will remain with the League One club until January 4th but the Owls have retained the right to recall the former Carlisle man on 24-hour notice should they deem it necessary.

Madine, who has scored twice for City in his current spell, has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Hillsborough this season and the Owls are likely to continue to be on the lookout for a new striker when the transfer window opens again in January. Gary Taylor-Fletcher recently returned to Leicester City following a largely unproductive loan spell at Wednesday.

Stevie May and Atdhe Nuhiu are currently Stuart Gray's preferred options in attack and the pair linked up well in Saturday's win against Wigan Athletic. The return from injury of Caolan Lavery gives the Owls another option up front.
