Sheffield Wednesday will have to cope without the services of loan ace Connor Wickham when they face Championship leaders Cardiff City at Hillsborough this weekend.

The England under 21 international has spent the past month on loan with the Owls but now that his initial 1-month spell has come to an end his parent club Sunderland have chosen to recall him.

Wickham featured 6 times for Wednesday in the Championship, scoring 1 goal which was a volleyed winner in last weekends victory at Leicester City. The youngster impressed Owls manager Dave Jones during his short stint with the club and Wednesday were keen to extend his stay but with Sunderland struggling to find any form in the Premier League Martin O'Neill has decided to keep hold of him for now and he is in contention to make the squad for their match against Norwich City this weekend.
