Sheffield Wednesday Women’s FC have been busy over the last few weeks signing no less than 3 players, with Manager Andy Burgess promising a few more before the end of the season. The first signing is Stacey Emonds. Stacey has just returned from America after 2 years there. Before she went across the pond she turned out for Leeds. A natural left back Stacey has slotted straight into the manager’s plans to help turn around the fortunes of The Owls. The 2nd player to sign is Lisa Sandy. Lisa returns for her 2nd spell with the Owls. She captained the winning County Cup team 2 seasons ago. A natural player she can play in various positions. The final signing is Fliss Middleton. A youngster who has been plying her trade at Leeds is an up and coming player.
All 3 are in the squad for the away game against Curzon Ashton. Manager Burgess: “After a lot of hard work we finally managed to sign all these players in time for our next few fixtures. The ladies we have signed will add quality and strength in depth to an already talented side. To bring players with this quality to a side that is not doing as well as it should show that the players believe we can turn around the poor beginning we had to the first half of the season. Our fortunes need to change, and quickly if we are to get out of the position we are in and I believe with the added quality we have bought in it can only assist us in that department.”
Goalkeeper Coach Scott Turner has left the club due to an ongoing workload which has stopped him being able to commit as much time as he liked at the training ground. Scott had been with the club since the start of the season. Chairman Jeff Maslin remarked, “To lose Scott at this time with everything else going on is a shame, but as I said to Scott, working with SWWFC does not unfortunately pay the bills and sometimes work has to come first”. Burgess was quick to react and has bought in a temporary replacement to assist him in the goalkeeper department. Dave Callaghan, who has worked with Burgess and goalkeeper Maslin before whilst both were at Nottingham Forest has agreed to help out with the goalkeeping coaching responsibilities until the end of the season.
