Owls need to get off to a flying start at home

It is imperative that Sheffield Wednesday make a positive start on home soil this season following two early away defeats. The performances in the two matches so far could easily be described as chalk and cheese. Despite going down to a 2-1 defeat at QPR on the opening day of the season last Saturday the Owls performed impressively against the title favourites and could feel aggrieved that they failed to pick up a point.

In almost complete contrast Tuesday's League Cup defeat at League One side Rotherham was a disappointing, disjointed display.

Dave Jones continues to be without 4 full-backs. Right-backs Lewis Buxton and Kieran Lee are out injured as are Left-backs Reda Johnson and Joe Mattock. Johnson is nearing a return but is unlikely to be at optimum match fitness to participate on Saturday.

Liam Palmer is expected to continue to deputise on the right and Jones is likely to choose between youngster Rafael Floro and wide midfielder Jeremy Helan for the left-back berth.

Tall striker Atdhe Nuhiu is expected to continue to lead the attack having scored on his Championship debut last weekend and Jacques Maghoma, who started against Rotherham, may well make the first 11 again with Jermaine Johnson starting a suspension following his midweek red card.

Burnley were dealt a major blow in the summer when top scorer Charlie Austin moved to Queens Park Rangers. The Clarets are yet to move into the market for a replacement but Danny Ings has stepped up by scoring two goals in their opening two games.

The Lancashire club began their season with a 1-1 draw against local rivals Bolton at Turf Moor and followed that up with an emphatic 4-0 League Cup victory at York.

Wednesday played their part in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Burnley last season but were well beaten by the Clarets at Hillsborough – 2-0 on New Years Day.
