Sheffield Wednesday’s performances during April have been met with recognition from the football league in the form of two nominations for their monthly awards.

After guiding the Owls to 4 win and 2 draws from their 7 games during the month, manager Gary Megson has been nominated for the League One Manager of the Month award for April.

The former Wednesday midfielder may not have got off to the best of starts when he took over the reigns from Alan Irvine in February but the fine form of late has given renewed hope that he can mastermind a promotion challenge next season.

Megson faces stiff competition for the award with Lee Clark (Huddersfield) Nigel Adkins (Southampton) and Paul Tisdale (Exeter) also in contention.

Key to Wednesday’s recent good run has been the form of striker Neil Mellor. The former Liverpool front-man has found the net 6 times during April to take his tally for the season to 20 and he has been nominated for the League One player of the Month award. Mellor is currently on loan from Preston North End but their may be the chance that the deal could be made permanent over the summer.

Ashley Barnes of Brighton, Danny Ings of Bournemouth and Craig Mackail-Smith of Peterborough are the other players to be nominated with the winners to be announced on Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
