Owls pitch rebuild in full flow, team restructure to start soon?

Sheffield Wednesday’s preparations for the 2015/16 season appear to be in full flow with the complete overhaul of the Hillsborough pitch starting to take shape.

The S6 turf was widely acknowledged as being one of the worst in the Championship last season and new Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri wasted no time in putting that right, committing to investing around £1M in improving the surface.

With the process now into it’s fourth week the foundations are now in place with the undersoil heating system having been restored and the developments will hopefully mean that the drainage problems of recent years will be a thing of the past. The pitch currently resembles more of a beach with the process of laying the turf set to start in June.

Further non-playing developments have seen the removal of the old scoreboard at Hillsborough. The dated version which had gained something of a cult status with the fans due to it quirky operation will be replaced by a new scoreboard said to be the biggest in the football league, which will help to bring in more advertising revenue for the club.

With these developments in full flow attention will turn to developments in terms of player recruitment. The Owls released 11 players at the end of the season and as we move into June teams up and down the country will be looking to make their moves in the transfer market as soon as possible to get players in place in time for pre-season training in order to hit the ground running in August.

The rumour mill is likely to get into full swing as the season draws to a close at all levels and as only the 3 relegated teams scored less goals in the Championship than the Owls managed last season there is no secret as to where Wednesday’s priorities should be.
