Sheffield Wednesday played their first pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday afternoon, drawing 0-0 against Austrian side USK Anif as reported on the club’s official website, www.swfc.co.uk.

At this initial stage of the summer the priority is on building up the players match fitness and experimenting with various tactical ideas and formations rather than concentrating on results.

All of the Owls pre-season signings played some part in a match played in sweltering conditions and young goalkeepers Richard O’Donnell and Arron Jameson played a half each.

Wednesday will step up their preparations for their League One campaign back in England over the next week, starting on Tuesday evening when the club will send representative teams to both Stocksbridge Park Steels and Hallam FC ahead of a trip to Grimsby Town next Saturday.
