Owls striker earns national call up

Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao has been rewarded for his fine form for the Owls with his first official call up to the Portuguese national squad.

The 22-year-old has settled in to Championship football well and has become more of a regular in the Owls side in the past month, netting important goals in the wins against Brentford, Rotherham and Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been rested by Portugal coach Fernando Santos but other than that it is a strong squad and the coach has described the 2 upcoming friendly matches as an opportunity for the players to stake their claim for a place in the Euro2016 squad.

Joao, who scored 2 goals in 5 appearances for the Portuguese under 21 team, could line up for his country against Russia on 14th November and Luxembourg on the 17th.
