Owls' striker moves south

Sheffield Wednesday striker Deon Burton has completed his move to Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic.

Burton joined the London club on loan for just over a month recently with a view to making the move permanent and now that the transfer window has opened the deal has been completed.

The Jamaican joined the Owls in 2006 and helped Paul Sturrock's side to secure Championship safety that season. The following two seasons were fruitful for the striker as he finished as top scorer for Wednesday in both 2006/07 and 2007/08.

Despite a much better start for the team this season Burton struggled to find his own form and was unable to hold down a regular place in the side. He only notched his first goal of the season as Blackpool shortly before his move south and also missed a penalty in the Sheffield derby at Hillsborough.

His striker record for Wednesday during his spell at S6 was only slightly better than a goal every 5 games, finding the net 27 times in 124 appearances.
