Yorkshire derby on Yorkshire Day
Sheffield Wednesday’s 2021-22 season will begin with the Carabao Cup first round tie against Huddersfield Town after the club confirmed a date for the tie had been decided.
The schedule for the first round of the competition was for matches to take place during the week commencing 9th August but the EFL gave clubs scope to reschedule to the week before the start of league season and both clubs have reached an agreement on this.
The tie between the Yorkshire rivals will take place at Hillsborough on Yorkshire Day – Sunday 1st August – with a 1pm kick-off time. No details regarding tickets for the game have been made available as yet, it may well be that the decision on this will be dependent on the government advice in relation to the lifting of COVID restrictions, which is expected to be formally confirmed on Monday 12th July.
