Owls to ring the changes at the Abbey

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Cambridge United in the 1st round of the EFL Cup tonight with coach Carlos Carvalhal expected to make multiple changes.

The Owls got their league campaign up and running with a win against Aston Villa on Sunday and the short turnaround between games means they could change close to the entire team.

The likes of Westwood, Hunt, Hutchinson, Bannan, Abdi, Wallace, Forestieri and Fletcher are not expected to play any part so there should be opportunities for Wildsmith, Palmer, Semedo, Matias, Joao, Helan and Nuhiu.

Cambridge are without strike duo Adam McGurk and former Wednesday forward Barry Corr. The home side began their season with a 1-1 draw against Barnet on Saturday.

The two sides have not met since Cambridge beat an Owls side featuring Paolo Di Canio over two legs in the League Cup in 1998 and they also enjoyed a memorable 4-0 F.A. Cup win against Wednesday in 1991.
