Owls unbeaten in 11 but Brighton too hard to beat

Sheffield Wednesday’s unbeaten run extended to 11 matches on Tuesday evening but Brighton maintained their impressive undefeated Championship record in a fairly cagey encounter at Hillsborough.

Clear cut chances were few and far between with both sides seemingly wary of the threat that the other posed on the break and as a result a draw was probably a fair result.

The Owls were not as energetic in attack as they had been in recent games but were just as resolute and well organised and when they did press with intent the ever energetic Barry Bannan was always involved.

Brighton’s defenders dealt well with the threat of in-form forwards Joao and Forestieri and Wednesday’s back four were equally solid. On the rare occasions that the visitors did find a way through Westwood was on hand and up to the task as the Owls recorded their 4th clean sheet in 5 games. The only goal Wednesday have conceded in that spell was a late consolation in the win at Rotherham.

Carlos Carvalhal will be keen for his side to continue the momentum and gain a positive result at struggling Charlton on Saturday before the Championship takes its final international break of the year.
