Peacock's offside frustration - exclusive

The former Bristol City striker came off the bench and pounced on a John-Paul McGovern cross to score his second league goal of an injury-hit season, only to find that the referee’s assistant raised his flag late following the home team’s protests.

Peacock told Footymad: “I spoke to Tony Vaughn after the game and he says it wasn’t offside, and he was in the box at the time but the linesman’s made his decision now and we have to live with it, I’m gutted but it’s one of those things.”

Peacock has had a torrid time this season with being sidelined but there is no doubt that he has become an instant favourite of Wednesdayites, and admits that the club are still on for promotion.

He says: "Knowing my luck I will come back strong and score a really important goal for the club, touch wood but I think we are still gunning for promotion, this club is crying out for it.

“Everyone at the club has a positive mind and we are all thinking that come the end of the season we will be out of this division.

“There is nothing or nobody in this league we should be scared of, we are on a good roll now – we haven’t won our last few games but the important thing is that we are very hard to beat.
