Quiet window no surprise for Owls

Deadline day rumours result in nothing

January 2018 proved to be a fairly quiet winter transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday as was largely expected to be the case. The Owls completed the signing of Dutch midfielder Joey Pelupessy, the first under new manager Jos Luhukay, midway through the month and as the window drew to a close youngster Matt Penney was allowed to leave on a loan deal to League Two side Mansfield Town for the remainder of the season.

With Wednesday seemingly out of contention for a promotion push any major signings were unlikely and though there were rumours that some high-profile players may leave the club nothing came to fruition.

Strike duo Atdhe Nuhiu and Jordan Rhodes were both linked with a move to Championship strugglers Sunderland but the black-cats ended up looking elsewhere for reinforcements with Luhukay stating he was happy to keep Nuhiu as the big forward has recently found his form in front of goal in the F.A. Cup.
