Quinn not bitter - exclusive

Quinn started in place of Steve MacLean on Saturday against Blackpool and despite playing well in the first half, he was substituted in the second for Talbot who came on to bag a brace.

But the former West Brom and Willem II striker holds no grudges against Talbot and believes that team glory is far more important than individual success.

He told Footymad: "I’m happy for Drew, he’s a really nice lad and a good player and at the minute it doesn’t matter who scores the goals, as long as we get three points at the end of the day, that’s what we as a team are paid by the club for. I’m not that petty to say that I have to play week in, week out, I’m not a selfish footballer – I’m just happy we’re winning at the moment.

"It was always going to be a tricky game, Blackpool came here with lots of confidence but we got three very valuable points. It was a shame about David (Lucas), he damaged his medial ligament and hopefully it won’t be too bad but Chris Adamson came in and did well.

"My fitness initially was not how the gaffer wanted it to be and the type of football we play is something that I have not been used to for the past few years and I am still getting used to it."

In two weeks, England play Quinn's Northern Ireland at Old Trafford in a World Cup qualifier but the Owls striker will be missing because of suspension - he received two dubious bookings in previous games and he admits to being gutted that he will miss the match.

He added: "I think I have been called into the squad but it’s a bit confusing at the moment and I don’t know how it’s going to work because they want me to go there despite me being suspended. By all accounts I will be away for the Torquay game the same weekend and I think Chris Brunt has been called up too, which is great for him, but we’ll just have to see what happens.

"I’m devastated about it to be honest and the closer the game gets, the harder it is to accept – it’s sickening to know that I didn’t do anything wrong but that’s life and that’s football and there’s more important things to worry about. We have an important game away in Poland on the Wednesday and I am ok to play in that so I think Lawrie Sanchez will want me to train with the team up until then and be ready for that game at least."

But club comes first at the moment and Quinn and a trip to Colchester on Saturday will be a brand new experience for the striker.

He said: "I have actually never played at Layer Road but I have heard it is a very difficult place to go because it is small and very compact but the lads are on a role at the moment and we fancy our chances against anyone at the moment."
