Relegated Rotherham a must win for out of form Owls

Sheffield Wednesday's play-off push has come off the rails in recent weeks and so a win against rock-bottom Rotherham on Tuesday evening is a must. Anything less than a win will not end any hopes of a top-6 finish but a poor result against a team that has lost 12 of their last 13 games will be a big blow to what already appears to be fragile confidence.

Wednesday are likely to be without inspirational holding midfielder Sam Hutchinson who limped out of Saturday's draw at Barnsley and playmaker Fernando Forestieri is unlikely to return from a knee injury.

Having been on the bench at Oakwell striker Gary Hooper will be pushing for a first appearance of 2017 following his return from injury and Portuguese winger Marco Matias could also come into contention after making a substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw.

Rotherham performed well despite going down to defeat against 6th placed Fulham at the weekend and having had their relegation mathematically confirmed by that defeat they may approach the game with less of a burden of pressure.

The home side will give late assessments to top scorer Danny Ward and midfielder Lee Frecklington as both are rated as doubtful following the weekend defeat. Former Owls keeper Lewis Price is likely to start in goal for the Millers.

Wednesday are without a win in 4 and have only won 1 of their last 7 games, their worst form of the season coming at the worst possible time.

Rotherham have picked up just 7 points from 18 matches since losing to an injury-time penalty against Wednesday at Hillsborough in December.

The Millers did beat Wednesday at Hillsborough last season but the Owls have a good recent record at their near neighbours having lost only once in their last 12 visits to Rotherham.
