Sheffield Derby Build up: The bad news

As the Sheffield Derby on Tuesday evening at Bramall Lane approaches, the injury problems that have hampered the Owls this season appear to have taken yet another turn for the worse.

With long-term injury victims Akpo Sodje, Francis Jeffers, Marcus Tudgay and Frank Simek already ruled out for the rest of the season the last thing Wednesday needed was for more players to pick up knocks but that is exactly what has happened.

Midfielder Sean McAllister has a calf injury that will prevent him from playing any further part in the season; this is a key blow as the youngster has added energy and mobility into the centre of the park since breaking into the side in recent games.

Franck Songo'o has been the main threat for Wednesday from the wide areas since joining on loan from Portsmouth and although he has agreed a deal to stay at Hillsborough for the rest of the season he limped out of Saturday's draw with Scunthorpe and is doubtful for the clash against the Blades.

A knee injury prevented young defender Mark Beevers from playing against Scunthorpe on Saturday and the centre-back who has been a revelation this season faces a late fitness test before tomorrow's game.

Peter Gilbert came in at left-back with Tommy Spurr covering a centre-half at the weekend but Gilbert has also picked up a knock and may be struggling to make it, as is Richard Hinds, who has an ankle injury.

Wade Small has been in and out of the side due to illness and injury recently and may also have picked up a knock on Saturday after he came on a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Glanford Park.
