Simek setback?

Owls right-back Frank Simek was conspicuous by his absence from Wednesday evening's reserve victory over Sheffield United.

The American international who has not played in the Coca-Cola Championship since picking up an injury against Crystal Palace in December had been making steady progress and played in the previous two reserve fixtures.

Simek was progressing at a similar rate to Steve Watson in terms of his rehabilitation and although Watson managed to make the 1st team bench last weekend and Simek did not, it was thought that this was due to Watson's versatility in providing cover for many positions and a return for Simek would also soon be on the horizon.

Watson played another 90 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday and with Simek missing from the squad completely Owls fans will be wary of the reasons behind this.

Manager Brian Laws has sent the Simek to see a specialist as the defender has been feeling pain in his injured ankle and although this is said to be a precautionary measure it is hard not to fear the worst given the dire injury record the club has had to contend with this season.

Another key player with an injury concern is Marcus Tudgay, who missed the draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend. Contrary to the saying that 'no news is good news'; it is a tad concerning that the club have not been able to confirm the extent of the injury as yet.
