Southend sign striker

Southend United have signed young Charlton Athletic striker James Walker this week for a fee of £200,000.

The forward arrives at Roots Hall on a two and a half year deal and with Southend also interested in bringing in Rory Fallon it seems any deal for the Owls Leon Clarke is now totally dead in the water.

Clarke had impressed on a loan spell at Southend and it looked as though the move would be made permanent but this fell flat over some form of disagreement about wages owed to the striker by Wednesday. The forward has failed to fit in at Hillsborough since his move from Wolves in January due to a lack of form and fitness and the Owls seemed keen to offload him in order to raise funds to use elsewhere in the transfer window.
