Star eyes extended run - exclusive

The club captain has played in attack, right-back, left-back, central midfield, on the wing, in goal and in his accustomed position of central defence this season but he has not had a run in just one particular position.

And after an injury-hit campaign, the amiable Scotsman is ideally looking for a place in the first-team in a position that he can make his own.

He told Footymad: "From a personal point of view you just want to play football. You are a professional footballer, that’s what you are paid to do and you want to play in the first team so I am happy in that respect - but it would be nice to get a run of games in a certain position so I can get some sort of consistency.

"I still feel at times, when we are chopping and changing positions, then your decision making can turn out to be very, very crucial.

"I mean I am my own worse critic and there are a few things I am not happy about but whenever you have a defeat then you always pick up on the negatives, you always remember the disappointing side of it rather than anything you have done positively."
