New court date to be arranged

Sheffield Wednesday released a statement on Saturday in response to media reports that striker Fernando Forestieri was wanted on arrest warrant for failure to attend court.

Various media outlets were quick to report on Friday that the forward had failed to attend Mansfield magistrates court that day to answer charges in relation to threatening words and behaviour and racially aggravated harassment. This created a social media frenzy and aspersions being cast against the player.

The club released an official statement to clarify the matter, confirming that they, the player and his legal team were unaware of the court date and as such the arrest warrant will not be pursued with a new date to be arranged.

The charges relate to incidents during the Owls pre-season game at Mansfield on July 24th.
