Tired Owls welcome international break

Sheffield Wednesday suffered their first defeat in 12 matches at the weekend, going down 3-1 to struggling Charlton at the Valley.

The Owls looked frustrated as they couldn’t produce the high energy type of performance that has served them so well in recent weeks and the hosts held a 2-0 half-time lead which they extended shortly after the break.

Fernando Forestieri gave the visitors a glimmer of hope, sliding in to score with 15 minutes left but the comeback never materialised as the Addicks picked up a much needed and well deserved 3 points.

Carlos Carvalhal will hope that his side come back refreshed and ready to go again in 2 weeks time but he has concerns over the fitness of 3 players following this defeat.

Glenn Loovens limped off at half time with a muscle injury and Barry Bannan & Jack Hunt struggled to finish the game after picking up knee injuries in the 2nd half.

The defeat sees the Owls drop to 9th place in the Championship table, 4 points behind the play-off places and 4 points ahead of Fulham in 12th.

Next up for Wednesday is a home game against HuddersfieldTown on Saturday 21st November.
