Hillsborough fixture to be rearranged

Sheffield Wednesday’s home game against Sunderland, originally scheduled for Saturday 4th September, has been postponed due to international call-ups.

EFL rules state that teams can request postponement to their fixtures at this level if they receive 3 international call-ups for international schedules to take place around the time of the fixture and Sunderland have taken up this opportunity. Wednesday would also have been without in-form on-loan goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell had the match taken place as he will be with the Northern Ireland squad.

No new date for the match has been confirmed as yet but as it stands, Wednesday have just one home league fixture in September, against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday 8th September.

The Owls face Newcastle Under 21’s in the Papa John’s Trophy at Hillsborough on Tuesday with a 7pm kick-off. Their next league match is at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 11th September.
