Turner was confirmed as the new boss at Hillsborough after leaving Third Division Hartlepool to return to the club he twice served as a player.

"I am absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to manage Sheffield Wednesday," Turner said on Sky Sports News.

"I've worked hard the last nine years and enjoyed a very successful spell at Hartlepool the last three years.

"As a player I wanted to get to the top and as a coach and manager that's always been my aim. I'd love to take this club into the Premiership but my first job is to keep them in the First Division, similar to keeping Hartlepool in the football league when I first went there. I have every confidence in the players to do that.

"As a football club there has been too many managers and no stability over the years. There has to be some stability and then you can build a football club.

"I've analysed all the results at this club and there is a losing culture throughout the club that has to be addressed as soon as possible, starting with the first team.

"I need to turn this club from being average into something that everyone in the city can be proud of."
