Turner views future options

A first-day disappointment against Colchester prompted some fans to be calling for Turner’s head and the upheaval could have been intensified with Ken Bates at the game.

But last night in Blackpool’s director’s box, current chairman Dave Allen, a vigilant supporter of Turner was sat about 15 seats from Bates, who was a guest of Tangerines chief Karl Oyston – and not surprisingly, the current commander in chief was smiling when his adversary looked to be sulking after the 2-1 win.

Turner is honest about his future and knows that if the team fail, then his job is on the line although he has confident belief that the club will be in a better shape whatever happens down the line.

Wednesday’s brutally honest manager said: “The pressure is going to be mounted on me all season because if we are not in the top three people will say that I am leaving, but whatever does happen to me this season, I will have left this football club in a lot better shape in terms of the players that we have got.

“I think this football club will be given the stability to be given the opportunity to come back. I work as hard as I possibly can; I have brought in some excellent young players along with the experience of Chris Marsden, Lee Peacock and Steve MacLean will get us goals this season.”

Against
Blackpool, players were jumping in front of tackles and blocking balls – something that just did not happen last season, and Turner believes that this do-or-die spirit will gain the club success.

He added: “It has took us 18 months to get where we are today with the players we have and after losing the first game of the season, it seemed as if the whole world is falling apart but we just have to improve as the season goes on and the supporters who were there saw the commitment, the passion and the attitude of the players.”
