Two leave Owls nest

Sheffield Wednesday have today officially announced that two players have been allowed to leave the club by mutual consent as Brian Laws looks to assess his squad in preparation for the 2009/10 season.

Midfielder Kenny Lunt is on his way out having not made a single 1st team appearance for the club during the 2008/09 campaign. The midfielder was signed by Paul Sturrock in 2006 and made more than 30 appearances in his first season at Hillsborough.

However, as Brian Laws started to shape his own team it was clear that Lunt was not part of his plans and he spent the remainder of his time at the club in the reserves and out on loan at the club where he first came to prominence, Crewe Alexandra.

Winger Small also joined the Owls in 2006 and although the winger made more appearances than Lunt his Wednesday career was often blighted by niggling injuries and an inability to produce a consistent run of form.

This ultimately led to increasing frustrations from the fans and the former MK Dons man was loaned out to Blackpool for a short spell towards the end of the 2008/09 season.

The departure of both players will come as no shock to the fans of the club and represents another step towards creating an increased spending budget for the forthcoming campaign.
