Wednesday draw potential banana skin in League Cup

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to avoid a slip up in the first round of the re-branded EFL Cup when they travel to Cambridge United on Wednesday 10th August.

The League 2 side, who finished 9th last season, will relish the opportunity to host Championship opposition at the Abbey Stadium and some Owls fans will recall a disappointing exit to the U's in the same competition nearly 20 years ago. In the 1998//99 season a Premier League Wednesday side featuring the likes of Paolo Di Canio lost 1-0 to Cambridge at Hillsborough and failed to turn the tie around in the 2nd leg, drawing 1-1 away.

The Owls enjoyed a good run in the League Cup last season, beating the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal before losing out to Stoke City in the Quarter-Finals.
