Wednesday forward faces FA charge

Incident last July to be considered

Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri has been charged by the Football Association with an aggravated breach of rules regarding using abusive/insulting words.

The charge relates to a well documented incident towards the end of the Owls pre-season match at Mansfield Town on July 24th 2018. The events in question resulted in Forestieri being charged with criminal proceedings but he was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment in a hearing at Mansfield Magistrates Court in March.

The delay in the FA bringing the charge was as a result of their proceedings being put on hold during the criminal proceedings but why this couldn't have been conducted during the final two months of last season is unclear.

The 29-year-old forward has until Friday 14th June to provide a response and if found guilty he could face a ban of at least 5 matches.
