Wednesday looking for home comforts after a spell on the road

Sheffield Wednesday face Birmingham City on Friday evening in front of the Sky TV cameras as they look to maintain their place in the top 6 and try to close the gap on those above them.

Having played their last 3 games away from Hillsborough the Owls will be eager to impress in front of their home faithful with a couple of new signings potentially making their home debuts.

Striker Jordan Rhodes is likely to make his first home start. Having signed for the Owls on deadline day he provided the assist for the only goal in the 1-0 at Wigan on his debut. Left-back Morgan Fox, signed from Charlton, made his first Wednesday appearance in last weeks draw at Bristol City. He missed the Wigan game with a small niggle but could come into the squad.

The Owls will welcome combative midfielder Sam Hutchinson back into the side as he has completed a 2-match suspension but striker Steven Fletcher serves the final game of his ban. Fellow forward Gary Hooper is struggled with a minor injury and centre-back Tom Lees may not be rushed back having missed the last game with a knock. Vincent Sasso is likely to play alongside Glenn Loovens again if Lees is not fit.

Birmingham travel north with a number of injury concerns. Former Owls centre-back Michael Morrison is sidelined with a hernia injury and fellow defender Ryan Shotton has a groin injury. Jonathan Grounds and Paul Robinson played together in the heart of the Blues defence at the weekend and Gianfranco Zola is expected to stick with the pairing at S6.

Ex-Wednesday winger Jacques Maghoma has a knee injury and isn't expected to be in Birmingham's squad.

The Owls are in inconsistent form having won 2, lost 2 and drawn 2 of their last 6 games in all competitions though they have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 6 on home soil.

Birmingham have struggled since Zola took over as manager and had gone 10 games without a won before beating in-form Fulham 1-0 at the weekend.

Wednesday beat Birmingham home and away last season but suffered a cruel injury time 2-1 defeat when the teams last met, at St Andrews in September.
