Sheffield Wednesday have moved back into the play-off positions following back to back League One victories and they will be expected to maintain their fine form when they face bottom of the table Walsall at home on Tuesday evening.
Youngster Arron Jameson was thrust into the starting line up at short notice at Milton Keynes at the weekend after Owls number one Nicky Weaver picked up an injury in training but the rookie showed few signs of any nerves, producing a solid display in helping Wednesday record a comprehensive victory. Weaver has however resumed training this week and could come back into the side.
Full-back Jon Otsemobor is unlikely to return from a calf injury but Giles Coke is available after serving a one-match ban and so manager Alan Irvine is faced with the dilemma of whether to tinker with a winning side following Saturday's 4-1 victory. Neil Mellor and Clinton Morrison look certain starters up front as their partnership continues to deliver the goods meaning that Marcus Tudgay is again likely to have to settle for a place on the bench.
Walsall will be without experienced striker Darren Byfield for their trip to Hillsborough as the club captain is expected to be out of action for more than a month with a knee injury. The Saddlers did however welcome former Manchester City forward, Jon Macken back to the starting line up at the weekend and he is expected to feature once again.
Full-back Ryan McGivern is available having just completed a three-match suspension but manager Chris Hutchings could well choose to stick with the team that beat Carlisle on Saturday. Former Wednesday midfielder Aaron Lescott is a regular in the Walsall side and is likely to start at Hillsborough.
Saturday's win at Stadium MK made it 4 wins in a row in all competitions for the Owls in which they have scored 15 times. However, despite this excellent recent form Wednesday will be hoping to improve on a home record that has seen them lose 3 times in 9 league games and score just 7 league goals on home soil, the joint lowest in the division.
Walsall followed up a midweek cup win against Fleetwood with an encouraging league victory over Carlisle but they have only won 3 of their last 17 matches and remain bottom of League One. The Saddlers have only collected 5 points from 8 away matches so far this season with their only away win coming way back in mid-August.
Wednesday have only lost once at home to Walsall in ten competitive matches with that defeat coming back in 1978. The last meeting between the two sides was on Boxing Day 2004 in the same division when the Owls ran out 3-2 winners at Hillsborough in front of 27,000 fans.
