Wednesday Vs Preston: Team news

Right-back Tony McMahon who joined the Owls this week on a month's loan from Middlesbrough is set to come straight into the starting 11 in place of the injured Richard Hinds.

The Owls could have a rare welcome boost of the injury front with striker Marcus Tudgay in contention to return having missed the last two games.

If Tudgay is to return then the Owls are likely to go with a 4-4-2 line up but if he doesn't make it then they could revert to the 4-5-1 that served them well in the first half at Wolves last weekend with Deon Burton up front on his own.

Burton has returned from playing for Jamaica in midweek and Etienne Esajas should be fit after being taken off with a tight hamstring at half-time last week.

Preston come to Hillsborough as one of the form sides in the Championship. Having started with an impressive win at Ipswich they followed this up victory at home to Crystal Palace and have also progressed in the Carling Cup.

Their main injury concern is experienced defender Callum Davidson while striker Chris Brown remains sidelined following an injury picked up during pre-season.

Wednesday have won 2 and lost of their three Hillsborough encounters against North End since returning to the Championship. The Owls bounced back from an awful first-half display on New Years Day last season to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Akpo Sodje and a penalty in an all too rare appearance from Francis Jeffers.
