Week off an ideal time to bring things to a head?

Sheffield Wednesday face Charlton at the Valley on Saturday, Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough the following Tuesday and then travel to Plymouth that Saturday before the Championship takes another week off for international fixtures.

The break in domestic action will doubtless shift supporters focus to matters off the field of play and should present an opportunity for the club and all concerned to make some definitive process.

Geoff Sheard, head of the consortium at the centre of the Owls takeover bid has admitted that the ball is in his court with regards to the next move, but this has been more or less the case since supporters group Wednesdayite agreed to sell the 10% shares that they own back at the beginning of August and little progress has been reported since then.

Recent reports have linked the bid to a convicted money launderer and although the Sheard camp has moved to hastily deny this they have admitted that the current global banking crisis is adversely affecting matters.

The Saga has now rumbled on for around 9 months and it is understandable that the longer it takes to reach a conclusion the more frustrated and indeed sceptical a larger number of supporters become.

With a week away from the toils of league football approaching maybe the time has come for Wednesday to apply some pressure if no further progress has been made by the time of the break.

At least then something productive may happen one way or another and the club can move on knowing exactly where it stands with regards to future finances as the current state of limbo is doing nobody any favours.

On a not unrelated point Wednesdayite reported a productive meeting with the club last week and feel confident that the club has genuinely taken on board the issues and concerns raised by the supporters group.

Although the takeover was not discussed issues relating to the leadership of the club at boardroom level were on the agenda as was the ticket pricing policy

Fears were raised by reporters and supporters alike on this website as early as April when the ticket prices were first released to a general mood of disbelief at the size of some of the price increases. These concerns have been shown to be well founded with home attendances down significantly on the same time last season and despite being unbeaten at home in the league thus far the past two attendances at Hillsborough have been lower than the lowest home league figure for the whole of the 2007/08 campaign.
