What does the future hold for Wallwork & Showunmi?

Enoch Showunmi and Ronnie Wallwork could struggle to get a place in the Owls line up again this season after both were substituted before half-time against QPR on Saturday.

Showunmi, on loan from Bristol City, has struggled in attack and has not found the net in six appearances had been taking stick from sections of the crowd during the game.

To be fair to Wallwork it could just have easily been Kavanagh who was replaced by young McAllister in the midfield as neither were performing well but the substitutions did spark the Owls in life and Kavanagh's performance was much improved as a result and he popped up with a rare goal from midfield.

While it would be naive to expect a good reaction from a player subbed before half-time for tactical reasons the fact that Wallwork angrily kicked out at a water bottle before trudging straight down the tunnel will not have helped his cause.

Brian Laws has refused to blame these two players for the poor first half showing, choosing instead to blame his own tactics but it was clear that Wednesday improved following the changes .

Many supporters will wonder why Burton has not had more of a run out of late; he worked well in partnership with Tudgay last season and has more of a knack for goal than Showunmi.

Wallwork, who is only under contract to the end of the season, has had problems getting into the side with Bolder and Kavanagh ahead of him in the pecking. Bolder is still unavailable for the next game against Colchester on Tuesday due to suspension but Laws may well opt to play McAllister or even O'Brien alongside Kavanagh in central midfield, leaving Wallwork with an uncertain future.
