Whelan bid rejected as Laws takes back-handed jibe at Folly

Sheffield Wednesday have turned down an official bid for midfielder Glenn Whelan from Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle.

Owls-mad reported that Argyle were interested in signing Whelan last week but the first formal bid for the Irishman has been turned down flat.

Manager Brian Laws stated on the SWFC official website "We have turned down a derisory offer from Plymouth for Glenn Whelan. When I saw the offer, I thought they had spelt Yoann Folly's name wrong."

Whelan is out of contract in the summer and may be available if the price is right as Wednesday will not want to lose him for nothing and he has been reluctant to sign a new contract.

The comments made by the manager may not have been meant to be derogatory towards Yoann Folly but it is hard to read them without viewing them in a very negative manner with regards to the French midfielder.

Folly, who put in a transfer request last week, was left out of the squad that faced Derby in the cup at the weekend and may be completely out of favour now.
