Whelan praise from Turner

The free transfer signing from Manchester City has been outstanding this season and seems to be getting better with every game since missing the first three matches due to a suspension he picked up at his former team Manchester City.

But it looks as if the Ireland U-21 captain will be a fixture in the side, especially with Wednesday look a lot better when he is in the team.

There have been many peers who have likened him to John Sheridan, although that could put a bit of pressure the youngster but Whelan overshadowed one of his heroes at Bescot on Saturday in Mark Kinsella, who was poor in comparision.

Turner says: "Glenn is getting a good partnership with Chris Marsden in the centre but he is still getting to know the players around him and they are still getting to know him but against Walsall he moved a step upwards, especially with his first goal for the club and two good strikes which went close."

And to say he was playing for his country last week, scoring twice in the process, many thought he would come back fatigued but he certinally was not.

Turner added: "He was excellent which is even better when you consider he has been away with the Ireland side for 12 days hanging round hotels, training and playing two strenuous matches, just shows how fit he is."
