Winger earns international call up

Owls' winger Jermaine Johnson has been included in the Jamaica squad for the forthcoming round of international matches next month.

Johnson has performed well in most of the Owls games so far this season and will join up with the reggae boys' team for fixtures against Mexico and Honduras.

After a poor start to their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign Jamaica recently sacked their manager and with former England winger John Barnes set to take over in November Johnson will no doubt be keen to make an impression.

Jamaica have picked up just 1 point from their first 3 group games and lie bottom of their group, facing an uphill task to even reach the final phase of qualifying never mind the finals themselves.

Wednesday striker Deon Burton has not been included in the latest squad, which will hopefully put an end to the fitness problems he has had so far this season. Burton was called up by his country throughout the summer and also in the last round of international games recently and this seemed to affect some of his league performances.
The heavy schedule left him looking jaded at times and the club cited jetlag as an issue recently when he spent time on the Owls subs bench. Let's hope that the call up for JJ doesn't have a detrimental affect on his club form.
