Striker closing in on a return

Sheffield Wednesday striker Sam Winnall took a significant step in his rehabilitation process today by appearing for the Owls under 23 team.

The 27-year-old suffered a knee ligament injury in February when on loan at Derby County and has not played since then. On Friday Winnall got a valuable 45 minutes under his belt and to top that off he scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 home win against Crewe.

It is likely that 45 minutes of involvement was pre-planned and should he show no adverse reaction to this then he will possibly step up his minutes in the next under 23 game. Along with the the former Barnsley striker other experienced first team players getting a run-out included Sam Hutchinson and Morgan Fox.
