John Spicer produced a sparkling goal as promotion favourites Wednesday were booed off by angry fans chanting "we want Turner out".

Bournemouth bounced back after three defeats in a row to heap more pressure on Hillsborough manager Chris Turner.

Sean O'Driscoll's side, who completed the double over Wednesday last season, almost snatched the lead on eight minutes after Wade Elliott weaved past his marker on the right flank to pick out James Hayter but he pulled his shot wide from 12 yards.

Wednesday striker Steve MacLean was the culprit a minute later as he ran onto Patrick Collins' pass only to slice the ball wide with Neil Moss guarding his near post.

Spicer fired inches over from the edge of the area while Moss foiled Wednesday with an eye catching stop in the 27th minute.

Striker Lee Peacock, back in the side after recovering from a flu virus, twisted cleverly to deliver a stinging shot from 15 yards which was pushed away in spectacular fashion by the Bournemouth keeper.

MacLean squandered another opening after Glenn Whelan picked him out before Wednesday escaped five minutes from half time, the lively Elliott cutting inside to fire in a low drive which cannoned off the post.

Bournemouth broke the deadlock two minutes later Daniel Rodrigues threading the ball to Spicer who finished clinically from 16 yards.

Paul Smith almost snatched the equaliser in the 51st minute as he reached John Paul McGovern's deep cross but Moss took the sting out of the header and pushed the ball away for a corner.

McGovern linked neatly with midfielder Glen Whelan minutes later finishing with a fierce drive from 20 yards, the ball flashing inch over the bar.

Turner brought on Chris Brunt and Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu after the interval for Paul Smith and the ineffective MacLean as Wednesday looked for a way back.
