Kaspars Gorkss grabbed a late winner as free-scoring QPR grabbed three points and gave Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws a miserable third anniversary in charge at Hillsborough.

The Londoners stunned Wednesday when they grabbed the lead after just ten minutes when Jay Simpson fired home his seventh of the season.

Adel Taarabt, on loan from Spurs, slid in an inch-perfect pass and Simpson, on a season-long loan from Arsenal, pounced as Wednesday's back four froze looking for an offside flag as he slotted home a crisp shot.

Two minutes later Wednesday were caught out again at the back when Taarabt found Wayne Routledge on the right and his pace took him into the area before his low angled shot beat Lee Grant, but glanced off the foot of the post.

But Wednesday struck back with an equaliser after 13 minutes. Darren Potter's astute pass triggered a burst from winger Jermaine Johnson who cut inside and squeezed a super low shot out of reach of Radek Cerny but just inside the post.

The home side should have edged in front when Luke Varney skipped a desperate challenge on the left, but his shot hit the post and Rangers scrambled clear.

Rangers came close to snatching the lead when Ben Watson galloped forward and hit a fierce low shot from distance but Grant forced it away.

Routledge blew another chance seconds before half-time when he raced into the area but hit his shot straight at the grateful Grant.

Two chances fell Wednesday's way soon after the break but a Johnson shot was easily blocked by Cerny and a Marcus Tudgay effort was off target.

And when Darren Potter dipped a free kick from 20 yards it beat Cerny but drifted just off target. Johnson was wayward with another shot from the left that was wide of the upright.

A wild clearance from Wednesday dropped into the path of Taarabt but he smashed his shot wild. Wednesday keeper had to produce a solid save when an opportunity fell the way of Simpson and he lashed a fierce drive.

After 65 minutes Rangers were saved by the woodwork when Marcus Tudgay slipped the ball to Tommy Miller on the edge of the area and his shot hit the post.

Eight minutes from the end Gorkss provided a towering header to snatch the winner from a Alejandro Faurlin corner.
