Entertaining draw near the top of the Championship
Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United drew 0-0 at Hillsborough in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, it was the first goalless draw between the two sides since 1969 but it was anything but dull.
Wednesday were dealt a blow before kick-off when in-form centre-back Julian Borner injured an ankle but they didn't let that detract from what was a very good performance in difficult conditions.
Sam Hutchinson moved to centre-back to replace Borner, Pelupessy started in midfield and Nuhiu joined Fletcher in attack. Wednesday took the game to 2nd-placed Leeds for good spells of the contest and had the better of an entertaining encounter.
Liam Palmer was denied in the opening 10 minutes as Casilla diverted his low drive around the post as Leeds struggled to clear a Wednesday attack. The Leeds keeper then bettered that save later in the half, tipping a fierce strike from Fletcher over the bar. The visitors almost grabbed the lead against the run of play in the final moments of the first 45 as Bamford's header was brilliantly tipped around the upright by Westwood.
Wednesday continued to make the running in the 2nd half and Fletcher's fine first-time strike from Fox's low cross cannoned off the crossbar with the rebound going wide off the back of the Leeds keeper.
Leeds came to life fleetingly as the game wore on, Harrison was denied by a sliding goal-line clearance from Fox and Alioski's back post header hit the crossbar. At the other end Casilla was again called upon to keep Wednesday out, tipping a goal-bound cross from Harris wide and then saving Nuhiu's close-range header from a corner.
Garry Monk's side showed they are capable of matching one of the divisions front runners and they will take confidence from their performance while being a tad disappointed not to have taken all 3 points.
Next up for the Owls is a trip to Blackburn Rovers next Saturday.
