A blast from the past to cheer us up

Times may be hard at Hillsborough at the moment but thanks to a football league poll Owls fans have the opportunity to win Football League goodies and take a trip down memory lane by voting for their favourite League Cup memory from the list of the top 50 key moments in the competition's history.

Amongst the list is Wednesday’s famous Wembley win over Manchester United in 1991, courtesy of John Sheridan’s stunning strike. That victory still ranks as the last time a club from outside the top flight won one of the two big domestic cup competitions in England and is the most recent major trophy won by a Sheffield club.

The celebration of the best moments in the competition’s history marks 50 Years of the League cup and gives fans the opportunity to decide which have been the ultimate displays during this time.

Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: “More than 78 million fans have watched matches in the League Cup since 1960 and we want those supporters to tell us their favourite highlight from the last five decades.”
