Adams ready to return - exclusive

The former Plymouth midfielder has been injured most of the season but Paul Sturrock is keen to bring the player back to give The Owls more defensive options in the middle of the park.

The Wednesday boss has always emphasised the importance of Adams to his plans but the supporters have not had that much chance to see him in action since his arrival from Home park after only making 14 starts in an injury-ravaged stint at Hillsborough.

But he is hoping to come back in the next few weeks after finally starting training again on Monday, he told Footymad: "Things are looking good at the moment and I am hoping to be more involved in training this week, progress through the week and hopefully am playing matches again as soon as possible really.

"It’s my Achilles what is causing me the problem and has done all season to be honest so hopefully this is the last we hear about it. It’s really difficult watching games though from the stands, especially when you are injured for a long period of time. I am hoping to get 45 minutes in a reserve game soon so hopefully in a few weeks I will be back to full fitness.

"It’s always hard to sit and watch games and watch the boys training so it’s nice to be back with the lads working hard. I have never seen anything like this (the club's injury situation). I have only played at Plymouth before here but we hardly had any injuries there so hopefully a few players in our team can make quick comebacks."

The 25-year-old though knows he is in the manager's plans and Adams is just hoping he can pay back the faith the Scotsman has shown in him.

He added: "It’s great to know that the gaffer has faith in my abilities, that’s a great boost. Yoann (Folly) had a great game at the weekend so when I am fit it may be tough to get back in there so we will have to see what happens.

"For the last week or so I think that the mood in the camp has been really good. We played really well against QPR and we were very unlucky. The boys are sticking together and that’s what we need at this time of the year – especially with the situation we find ourselves in at the moment. We are playing well but just lacking the results at the moment so fingers crossed we can get them."
