Sheffield Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje made his debut for League One high fliers Charlton Athletic on Saturday as the London side strolled to a 5-1 home victory over promotion rivals MK Dons.

Sodje has yet to start a first team game for the Owls this season and has been given the opportunity to go out on loan in order to improve his match fitness and general sharpness.

With this in mind the tall front man has joined the Addicks for a 28-day spell but it seems that he may struggle to get a starting opportunity at the Valley if the team can maintain this kind of form.

Charlton currently sit in 2nd place in League One and are among the top scorers in the division. Three forward players found the net for the home side on Saturday – former Owls striker Deon Burton bagged the fifth, ex Owls loanee and Lloyd Sam and David Mooney, on loan from Reading were also on target so Sodje, whose current Hillsborough contract expires in the summer, will experience stiff competition for a place up front.

Akpo came on as a substitute on Saturday with thirteen minutes remaining and no further goals were added to the score line from then onwards. The striker came on to play in the same side as his brother Sam, the centre back was once a transfer target for the Owls and he was also one of the scorers in the comfortable Charlton victory.
